Healthcare Systems Future Predictions For Global Care (Hb 2018) Hardcover

This book gathers insights from 146 experts in health policy, system design, management, research, and practice, each focusing on their own country or region. They were asked to envision health reforms or system improvements over the next 5 to 15 years and predict how their successful implementation could strengthen their health system. The resulting case studies cover 52 individual countries and five regional groups, representing a total of 152 countries or territories – about three-quarters of the world. The projects envisioned by the authors are diverse, ranging from e-consultation services in Estonia and achieving universal health coverage in Argentina and Mexico, to reforming long-term care in the Netherlands and reassessing care for the elderly in Australia. Other examples include streamlining Nigeria's health system using Lean Thinking, improving care through regulation in South Africa, developing a new accreditation model in Turkey, critiquing physician specialization in Russia, and applying IT initiatives to enhance care in China, Lebanon, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, the United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, and Wales. The authors acknowledged that their improvement efforts were ongoing and aimed at a constantly evolving target. They generally agreed that effectively managing limited resources and overcoming challenges were essential for strengthening health systems and delivering better care in the medium term. 1 While some projects required significant funding, many were relatively low-cost.
