This book's content is drawn from the author's extensive experience: 35 years teaching "steam generators" to graduate students at the Politecnico of Milan, Italy, and 45 years of professional work in the field, initially in industry and later as the founder of a design and consulting firm. The title "steam generators" is chosen deliberately. While "boilers" technically refer to machines solely comprising steam-generating tubes where water becomes saturated steam, "steam generators" (or simply "generators") encompass more complex systems. These include boilers plus additional components like superheaters, reheaters, economizers, and air heaters. Even tubular machines heating diathermic fluids are sometimes called boilers due to their similar construction. Despite this varied terminology, "boiler" is often used even when the output is hot or superheated water instead of steam. Large-scale electricity generation systems invariably include all these components alongside the core boiler. Medium-sized systems typically have some of these additions, while smaller systems often incorporate a regenerator. Therefore, "steam generators" is the most fitting title as it accurately reflects the comprehensive nature of these systems discussed in the book, which is relevant for readers in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, and elsewhere interested in thermal power generation.
